my job OWL 2026: M+M Impresses with Steam Turbine Memory Game
in News

March 2026
How do you make complex steam turbine technology understandable and exciting for young people? With this question in mind, we took part in the ‘my job OWL’ careers fair at the Bad Salzuflen exhibition centre for the very first time, from 13 to 15 March 2026. Our answer: a digital steam turbine memory game – and lots of personal conversations.
Our Debut at my job OWL
For three days, our team in Hall 20 was all about being approachable, listening and explaining. At our stand, we met school pupils, school leavers and graduates, career changers and experienced professionals, all looking to find out about career opportunities in East Westphalia-Lippe. Many were surprised to learn that a steam turbine manufacturer is based right here in Bad Salzuflen.
For us, it was about more than just presenting our vacancies. We wanted to show what lies behind steam turbine technology and why working with us is so varied, exciting and future-oriented. After all, our turbines turn process steam into electricity and heat – a genuine contribution to the energy transition.
Discovering Steam Turbines Through Play
Very few people come across steam turbines in their everyday lives. While many exhibitors rely on prize wheels, popcorn or candyfloss, we deliberately chose a different approach: an interactive element that not only attracts attention, but also suits who we are and sparks curiosity about our working world. This is how our marketing department came up with the idea for our own digital steam turbine memory game.
Designed and created by our marketing team, the game reflects the M+M look throughout. On a touchscreen kiosk, players had to find matching pairs from our world – components, materials and manufacturing steps of a steam turbine. And, of course, there were prizes to be won.
At careers fairs, our target group has little time and is often hesitant to approach exhibitors. That is why we wanted to create something that instantly makes people want to stop for a moment – with no prior knowledge of engineering or turbines required.
The concept worked – far beyond our expectations. Countless young people stopped, played along, asked questions and naturally got talking to our team about technology, apprenticeships and career paths. We also had in-depth discussions with representatives of organisations that help people into training and work. We were particularly pleased that our memory game attracted attention beyond our stand and was mentioned as a highlight of the fair by Wirtschaftsnachrichten OWL, a regional business news outlet.
What Remains: Encounters, Contacts and the Tirst Applications
Our first time at my job OWL showed us just how much a personal conversation can achieve. We made valuable contacts – and, even better, the first applications have already reached us since the fair.
A big thank you to all our visitors for your curiosity, the inspiring conversations and all the positive feedback. And thank you to our exhibition team, who championed our steam turbines with such enthusiasm for three days. We look forward to seeing many of you again next year – and perhaps soon as part of our team.
