One of the biggest German sugar producers, the company Pfeifer & Langen GmbH & CO. KG in Euskirchen, decided to utilize the steam for their sugar manufacturing process with a steam turbine provided from M+M Turbinen-Technik. Since September 2013 our backpressure turbine, with an exhaust steam pressure of 3,5 bar abs., has successfully been operating, replacing an older turbine. The biggest challenge was to fit the new installation into the dimensions of the available space. Due to our individual approach for all our clients, we were able to effectively manage this task. The steam turbine with a power of 6,4 MW can be run by both a 40 bar boiler as well as a 60 bar boiler. Our responsibilities included the planning and construction of the live steam and the exhaust steam pipe between the turbine and existing system. Furthermore, we executed the foundation of the turbine and its substructure, in this case a steel construction. Additionally, due to the intense cooperation between M+M and Pfeifer & Langen, we were able to shorten the project timeline. As a result the commissioning of our turbine plant took place ahead of schedule.
